From the Georgia State House to the U.S. Senate, Republican elected officials have jumped into the deep end of election conspiracies and sought to invalidate elections that they participated in and won just because President Donald Trump lost.
In the span of about a week, both chambers of the Georgia General Assembly let Rudy Giuliani run roughshod over committee hearings and spread misinformation. Some lawmakers tried and failed to convene a special session to appoint electors for Trump. The House speaker even said lawmakers should elect the secretary of state instead of voters, and that’s not even the half of it.

The Georgia Secretary of State s office said they will audit a random sample of absentee ballot envelopes in Cobb County from the November general election and the June 9 primary as part of an investigation that local officials mishandled the process.
The state will work with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to examine a number of the absentee ballot envelopes that were accepted to ensure county election workers correctly confirmed the signature on the envelope matches the signature on the application for the ballot.

The MARTA Board of Directors announced recently that Leah Ward Sears, former Chief Justice of the Georgia Supreme Court and partner at Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLC, will serve as its new General Counsel. Sears will provide guidance to the board on a variety of legal, statutory, and ethical matters during a five-year term.
“My fellow board members and I are excited to have such an experienced jurist and attorney to assist us,” said MARTA Board Chair Freda Hardage. “I have long been an admirer of Justice Sears and look forward to seeking her guidance and leadership during any complex issues we may face.”
