Metro Atlanta school districts are finalizing plans to distribute COVID-19 vaccines to thousands of teachers and other staff members. Gov. Brian Kemp moved educators into vaccine group 1A+, meaning they could start getting inoculated this week.
Clayton County Public Schools partnered with county health officials to administer vaccines at the North Jonesboro Center. Appointments are available Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays in March from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Clayton teachers can sign up through the employee portal on the district’s website.

Monday was a big day for teachers and school staff as many started receiving their COVID-19 vaccine shots.
It’s also the day shipments of the
single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine began to arrive in Georgia. Teachers will be the first to get that vaccine, which is the only single-dose vaccine made available in the U.S. so far.
Gov. Brian Kemp toured a mass vaccination site in Gwinnett County Monday that hoped to get at least 600 teachers vaccinated. Kemp said opening up vaccination eligibility to a new population is a step in the right direction.

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. â Officials with Fulton County Schools are targeting mid-April to have all willing staff members vaccinated with both doses of the COVID-19 vaccination.
The district is planning two six-day sessions, one for each round of doses, beginning in March for all full and part-time staff. Those groups includes teachers, substitutes, charter school staff and community coaches
âNow that a timeline has been set by the governor, Fulton County Schools will work with the Fulton County Board of Health for district personnel to get vaccinated,â said Brian Noyes, chief communications officer for the school district. âWe are prepared and resourced to meet the challenges of the effort.â
