FMCC to hold weekly virus testing | News, Sports, Jobs

aonyon@leaderherald.com JOHNSTOWN Fulton-Montgomery Community College will conduct weekly coronavirus testing of all on-campus students and staff throughout the spring semester as part of an expanded mandate from the State University of New York. FMCC began regularly testing a portion of the on-campus student population midway through the fall semester as part of a surveillance program developed by SUNY mandated for implementation on all campuses within the state college system. The surveillance testing program rolled out at FMCC in the fall saw roughly 25 percent of all students taking courses on campus tested every other week in an effort to identify, contain and prevent the spread of the coronavirus on college campuses and in surrounding communities.

FMCC to provide space for vaccines | News, Sports, Jobs

aonyon@leaderherald.com JOHNSTOWN Fulton-Montgomery Community College is working with county health officials to provide space on campus for the mass distribution of the coronavirus vaccine. Acting President Greg Truckenmiller on Thursday reported to the Board of Trustees that the Fulton County Public Health Department operated a coronavirus vaccine clinic on the college campus earlier in the day. Health officials were expected to administer 200 vaccine doses to first responders during the first day on campus and will return today to administer the vaccine to registered educators at the K-12 level, as well as some FMCC staffers. The Fulton County Public Health Department is expected to continue utilizing space at FMCC to operate vaccine clinics in the months ahead. Currently appointments to receive the vaccine will be scheduled on-campus two days a week, with health officials planning to expand time slots to four days a week in the future, according to Truckenmiller.

Harold was a loving and dedicated father, husband, grandfather, brother, and friend. Harold was well known throughout Gloversville and neighboring communities as he was admired for having a warm, kind, charismatic personality. He always made himself available, often giving back to the community and all who met him have fond memories of shared stories and laughter in their exchange. Many never knew, when they saw Harold with his infectious smile and willingness to stop for a coffee or conversation that he fought a courageous three-year battle with cancer.

FMCC officials expect revised health and safety capital project to get underway | News, Sports, Jobs

aonyon@leaderherald.com JOHNSTOWN Fulton-Montgomery Community College officials expect work on the school’s revised capital project focused on health and safety to get underway late this month. FMCC Trustee James Landrio of the Buildings and Grounds Committee reported to the Board of Trustees on Thursday that contracts for the college’s 2020 capital project are expected to be signed by the school’s sponsor counties shortly with related planning work ongoing. “Planning with these contractors regarding the project work schedule is ongoing and it is expected that work on the 2020 capital project will begin sometime this month,” said Landrio. Work slated for inclusion in the capital project includes replacement of the college’s obsolete fire alarm system, refurbishment of the outdated HVAC chiller system serving O’Connell Hall and installation of a monitoring alarm in the school’s wastewater treatment plant as mandated by the state Department of Environmental Conser
