Law to hire CO s from out of area enacted | News, Sports, Jobs

manich@leaderherald.com JOHNSTOWN The Fulton County Board of Supervisors recently adopted a local law to allow Sheriff Richard Giardino to recruit corrections officers from counties contiguous to Fulton County. Action by the board followed a public hearing on the matter. The sheriff has needed a larger pool of officers to serve the Fulton County Correctional Facility at Route 29 and Harrison Street. Supervisors voted to adopt local law “B” of 2020 allowing not only residents of Fulton County to serve as corrections officers, but residents of continuous counties, such as Montgomery, Saratoga and Herkimer counties. “It will help me out,” Giardino said Thursday. “It gives me a larger pool of applicants.”

manich@leaderherald.com JOHNSTOWN The Fulton County Police Reform Advisory Committee is soliciting public responses from its survey until Jan. 15. The survey is available on the Fulton County government website at www.fultoncountyny.gov or at www.facebook.com/LeaderHerald, where you can follow a link to fill out a PDF file that can be either printed and faxed or email. The Fulton County Sheriff’s Department is working closely with the Fulton County Police Reform Advisory Committee to devise a final report due to the state by April. Sheriff Richard Giardino said Monday that work on the plan is coming along well.

County board set for final meeting of year | News, Sports, Jobs

manich@leaderherald.com JOHNSTOWN Approval of numerous end-of-the-year contracts are on the agenda for the last Fulton County Board of Supervisors meeting of the year at 1 p.m. Monday at the County Office Building. The meeting is open to the public in the Supervisor’s Chambers. Outgoing board Chairman Warren Greene is due to make farewell remarks for 2020 to the board. The board’s organizational meeting is set for10 a.m. Jan. 4 at the County Office Building. The board will conduct a public hearing Monday at 1:30 p.m. to receive comments regarding proposed Local Law “B” of 2020. The law would allow residents of Fulton County and contiguous counties to serve as corrections officers. The law is expected to be passed later in the session.
