Officials seeking $6.25 million in federal funds to replace bridge in Schoharie | The Daily Gazette SECTIONS SCHOHARIE Local and federal officials are pushing for $6.25 million in federal funding to replace the Bridge Street bridge over the Schoharie Creek that has been labeled “structurally and functionally obsolete” by the state Department of Transportation. The funding to replace the nearly 100-year-old bridge was included in the Investing in a New Vision for the Environment and Surface Transportation in America Act that was approved by the House on Thursday and is now headed to the Senate. Schoharie Commissioner of Public Works Dan Crandell, while at the site of the bridge with other officials on Tuesday, said that the structure is currently safe for travel, but must be addressed as soon as possible.

City man accused of murder arraigned in court | The Daily Gazette SECTIONS Shares0 GLOVERSVILLE – Adam W.Mitchell was arraigned in Fulton County Court Tuesday on charges of 2nd-degree murder, 1st-degree assault and 3rd-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Mitchell, 52, of 207 N. Main St., Apt. 2A, was indicted by a Fulton County grand jury on all three charges on June 21. The arraignment took place Tuesday in front of Judge Michael Smrtic. Mitchell was first arrested and charged in March after police said he stabbed and killed his neighbor, Joseph Robert Hoyt, 39, of 207 N. Main St., Apt 3B, on March 27. Police officers found Hoyt dead in the hallway of 207 N. Main St, according to a news release Tuesday from Fulton County District Attorney Chad Brown. An autopsy on March 28 concluded Hoyt’s death was a homicide.

The Middleburgh Meadows project, introduced in 2015 after the community lost its only grocery store and a number of other buildings following Hurricane Irene in 2011, has evolved into a different project from what was originally planned –  in part because many big-city residents are looking for smaller communities following the pandemic. Known as the “Gross Cemetery” or sometimes as the “Boshart Cemetery,” the piece of land was used as a grave yard by a now long gone Lutheran Church in the 18th and 19th centuries. It is one of at least 16 rural cemeteries owned by the town of Johnstown, many of them in various states of disrepair.

Heriberto Rodriguez, 23, of the Bronx, was arrested in New York City on one count of second-degree attempted murder, police said. Rodriguez is accused of opening fire from a vehicle in front of 92 Union St. June 18, striking the victim on the sidewalk, police said. The victim, 25, suffered a gunshot wound to his neck. He was airlifted to Albany Medical Center and survived.
