16 April 2021 Noah Grabe, a UM senior from Portland and Taylor Gregory, a UM senior from Lolo, have both received a prestigious Fulbright Fellowship to serve as English teaching assistants next year in Madrid. The two met freshman year in UM’s Davidson Honors College and developed a friendship as undergraduates.
MISSOULA – Noah Grabe and Taylor Gregory met on the second floor of Knowles Hall at the University of Montana their freshman year.
They made a connection over a shared passion for the outdoors, international diplomacy and an interest in the humanities. Both had enrolled in UM’s Davidson Honors College.
Kerri Czekner Awarded Fulbright Research Award to Italy Byline Share This Post
Senior Kerri Czekner has been awarded a Fulbright Research Award to Italy to conduct cancer research at the Istituto Europeo di Oncologia in the melanoma laboratory of Dr. Luisa Lanfrancone in Milan. This prestigious award was only offered to 11 students in the United States.
“I’m extremely excited about the possibility of returning to Italy to engage in meaningful scientific research,” she said. Current travel restrictions due to COVID-19 do not allow Americans to enter Italy, so she’s waiting to hear more information from the Fulbright Commission before she makes a final decision to accept. “Even if I am not able to pursue this excellent opportunity, I look forward to pursuing my doctorate at the Skaggs Graduate School of Chemical and Biological Sciences at Scripps Research.”

Alumnus voice: Teaching in Taiwan during the pandemic
Vince Nguyen graduated from MSU in 2020 with majors in physiology and human biology in the College of Natural Science, and economics in the College of Social Science, with minors in Spanish, pharmacology/toxicology and social science quantitative data analytics. After graduating from MSU, Nguyen traveled to Taiwan as part of the Fulbright English Teaching Assistant Program. After the program, Nguyen plans to attend Columbia University for a Master of Public Health in epidemiology.
In April 2020, I felt the excitement of being accepted as a Fulbright English teaching assistant (ETA) in Taiwan and the disappointment of my grant being delayed until January 2021. As I finished my undergraduate coursework and struggled with my mental health at home amidst the worsening pandemic, every day was spent in anticipation of going to Taiwan, a country that seemed like a safe haven in comparison to the United States.
