Before he lost US$20 billion, Bill Hwang was the greatest trader you had never heard of

Before he lost US$20 billion, Bill Hwang was the greatest trader you had never heard of Trader Bill Hwang. Photo: Bloomberg / Emile Wamsteker Before he lost it all - all US$20 billion - Bill Hwang was the greatest trader you had never heard of. Starting in 2013, the Korean-American investor parlayed more than US$200 million left over from his closed hedge fund into a mind-boggling fortune by betting on stocks. Had he folded his hand in early March and cashed in, Hwang, 57, would have stood out among the world s billionaires. There are richer men and women, of course, but their money is mostly tied up in businesses, property, complex investments, sports teams and artwork. Hwang s US$20 billion net worth was mostly liquid. And then, in two short days, it was gone.

McMullen: Minari is uplifting story of salvation and humanity

McMullen: ‘Minari’ is uplifting story of salvation and humanity Cary McMullen Last week, just before the Academy Awards ceremony, my wife and I watched the film “Minari,” which was nominated for six Oscars. It tells the story of an immigrant family from South Korea, who purchase a farm in rural Arkansas in the 1980s. We were especially interested in the film because my wife grew up in South Korea as the daughter of Presbyterian missionaries. She readily identified with the Yi family, their culture and their speech. It’s an uplifting movie, one that is both uniquely American and yet universal in its theme of the struggles of a man and woman to improve their lives but at odds on the best way to do it. America has provided them the opportunity but not the skills to live together while running a farm, worrying about a child with a heart condition and navigating a new and strange culture. We root for them to overcome the obstacles.

How will evangelical schools teach about the Capitol attack?

How will evangelical schools teach about the Capitol attack? The conservative evangelical education system has become a pipeline of extremism. Trump supporters try to break through a police barrier on Jan. 6, 2021, at the Capitol in Washington. As Congress prepared to affirm President-elect Joe Biden s victory, thousands of people gathered to show their support for President Donald Trump and his claims of election fraud. (AP Photo/Julio Cortez) April 22, 2021 (RNS) American schoolchildren are already learning about the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol in classes using the same news stories we read today. In future generations, they will read about the day’s events in their history books. How that history is taught, particularly the events that led up to it, could be taught very differently, however, depending on where students are sitting. As a pastor in the evangelical tradition, I fear how Jan. 6 will be remembered in conservative evangelical schools.
