PHUKET: Phuket Provincial Public Health Office (PPHO) Chief Thanit Sermkaew has reported that no people who had close proximity to a shrimp delivery truck or its driver who had recently returned from Samut Sakhon have been found infected with COVID-19.

Dr Thanit explained yesterday (Dec 31) that concerns were raised after it became known that a truck and its driver had recently delivered shrimp from Pa Khlok to Samut Sakhon, and then returned.

PHUKET: Small events organised by private parties to celebrate the New Year are still allowed, the Phuket office of the Public Relations Department of Thailand (PR Phuket) confirmed to The Phuket News today.

The confirmation follows Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on Friday issuing a ban on “all public gatherings” as infections from the Samut Sakhon outbreak rise, now reaching 38 provinces.
However, PM Prayut also left the decision of whether or not to institute any lockdowns to provincial governors.

PHUKET: Vachira Phuket Hospital Director Dr Chalermpong Sukontapol today (Dec 23) confirmed that two sons of the Phuket man confirmed on Monday as infected with COVID-19 are also infected with the virus.

The man, a resident of Kathu, was confirmed as infected with COVID-19 after returning from the big bike rally on Koh Lanta, Krabi, where he came into direct contact with a man from Samut Sakhon.
