The ceremony honored and remembered the 2,364 people who have died from COVID-19 in the 13 jurisdictions that make up the regional commission, which represents a population of more than 2.5 million people. A display of 236 small flags were placed at the ceremony, with each flag representing 10 people who have died from COVID-19 in the region over the past 15 months.

Fairfax County to begin transition to electric vehicles after landing $4 4M in state funds

Today at 9:30am Fairfax County is taking a small but crucial first step toward electrifying its sprawling government vehicle fleet, thanks to more than $4 million in state grants. Gov. Ralph Northam announced on Friday (May 7) that the county will receive $4.4 million from the first round of Virginia’s Clean Air Communities Program, an initiative that launched in November using $20 million from the state’s Volkswagen Environmental Mitigation Trust.
