The Herndon Town Council has unanimously voted in favor of naming Cesar del Aguila as vice mayor for the 2021-2022 term.
The resolution passed unanimously. As a matter of tradition, the council member who receives the most number of votes during the Nov. 3 election is given the position.
He won the election with 13.69 percent while incumbent Pradip Dhakal trailed with 13.48 percent of the total vote, according to election results.
Del Aguila is serving his second term on the council. In the past, he has served on the town’s pedestrian and bicycle committee and the interview subcommittee.
A shoplifting suspect was in custody in Virginia on Saturday night, accused of shooting two Walmart security guards and a sheriff's deputy, then stealing a vehicle before eventually being captured, according to reports.
Police have identified a 61-year-old Falls Church area man accused of shooting a teenage boy in the face before being shot by officers on Thursday.
Glenn Allen Myer was released from the hospital earlier today and was charged with aggravated malicious wounding, Fairfax County police said in a news release. He is being held at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center without bond.
The incident began with a 911 call at 10:49 a.m. in the 2000 block of Peach Orchard Drive. A teenager told dispatchers he had been shot in the face by a man who lives in the apartment, police. The teenager sought shelter from the armed assailant in a bedroom and told the police dispatcher that the man was actively trying to break into the room.

Heather Mitchell will make another run for Special Election for Virginia’s 2nd House District, which could happen as soon as early January.

This will be the second time Mitchell, a Republican, has campaigned for the seat. She lost in November 2019 to incumbent Jennifer Carroll Foy (D), Prince William County, who has held the seat since 2017.
Carroll Foy announced she would step down from the seat to devote her full attention to her campaign for state governor, which she launched a statewide bus tour in Spring 2019 a precursor to her gubernatorial campaign at the same time she sought reelection to her House of Delegates seat.
