More than 100 people and vehicles have been searched and 17 charges laid in a three-day police operation responding to a spate of public shootings in Sydney’s south-west.
Police launched the high-visibility operation at 5pm on Friday, just hours before a home in Merrylands was sprayed with bullets. Five people were home, including two children.
NSW Police have been targeting criminal groups over three days through Operation Talon.

Operation Talon was led by Fairfield City and Auburn police area commands, with the assistance of the Raptor Squad and officers from highway patrol, aviation and the dog unit.

An alleged paedophile captured on CCTV being chased down by a teenage boy in an arcade in western Sydney has been charged with sexual assault.
Police will allege in court the boy, 13, was sexually assaulted by the man, 70, in a toilet block at The Kingsway near Wentworthville train station on Monday afternoon.
Disturbing CCTV footage shows the young teen chasing down the man afterwards while trying to attract the attention of others.
The vision shows the boy dressed in a white T-shirt with a school backpack and dark shorts, throwing a glass frame at the adult man s back in a shopping arcade near the station.

Two charged as inquiries continue into alleged import of ‘ice’ valued at $3 million
Two men have been charged as part ongoing joint investigations into the alleged importation of ‘ice’ concealed in an air cargo consignment.
The consignment, having arrived in Sydney from the United States of America (USA) last month, was selected for examination by officers from the Australian Border Force (ABF) who identified inconsistencies in the package.
During a subsequent deconstruction, the consignment was found to contain 4kg of an unknown substance concealed within a concrete block.

Crime by Ally Foster A Sydney couple decided to devise a plot to lure a man into their home and detain him after he allegedly groomed their young daughter online before sexually assaulting her. Police allege Jamil Ahmed Chowdhury, 22, had been grooming the 14-year-old girl for sex via social media after connecting with her online last year. He has been accused of going to her Villawood home, in Sydney s west, and sexually assaulting her. After discovering allegedly explicit messages between the pair, the girl s parents decided to lure Mr Chowdhury to their home and confront him. Footage obtained by 7News shows the girl s father attempting to detain the accused predator.
