Fairfield-Suisun school board tables talks on resumption of in-person learning FAIRFIELD A long-awaited decision by the Fairfield-Suisun School District governing board to either return to in-person learning or to continue distance learning is going to have to wait due recent changes from the state. Schools are currently prohibited across the Bay Area from going to in-person learning due to the governor’s stay-at-home order. The staff recommended that the governing board table consideration of reopening plans Thursday night until the Gov. Gavin Newsom’s “Safe Schools for All” plan is approved by the Legislature. This would allow the school board to consider the state plan as an option for reopening.

Fairfield-Suisun school board revisits plans for return to in-class teaching FAIRFIELD A return to in-person learning was on the minds of everyone Thursday at the Fairfield-Suisun School District governing board meeting. But any plans for a decision to do so at the board’s meeting Jan. 14 remain in flux given that Solano County is now included in the state’s most-restrictive lockdown since March to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus that causes Covid-19. Nevertheless, plans continue to be developed to allow for some sort of return to on-campus instruction. Nancy Dunn, president of the Fairfield-Suisun Unified Teachers Association, acknowledged Thursday that from the teachers union’s standpoint, distance learning is not ideal.
