Easter Bunny, New Stores Coming to Pentagon City Mall

More are set to open in the near future, including hip tire store Roll by Goodyear, large stuffed animal shop Squishable, fashion retailer Telos LA, and World Gem and Jewelry. But perhaps the biggest upcoming arrival is none other than the Easter bunny. The floppy-eared mascot of the spring holiday will hop in on Thursday, March 18 for socially distanced visits and photos with kids, seven days a week. “The Bunny Photo Experience hours are Monday through Saturday from noon to 7 p.m. and noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday,” mall operator Simon noted in a press release. Photo sessions will be available through April 3, the day before Easter Sunday, and reservations are “strongly encouraged.”

Pentagon City Metro is Getting a Second Elevator

The Pentagon City Metro station is getting a second elevator. On Saturday, the Arlington County Board voted to award a contract to W. M. Schlosser Company for the construction of a second station elevator on the west side of S. Hayes Street, near the Fashion Centre at Pentagon City mall. Designs for the elevator were first approved early last year and the contract for managing the construction was approved this past summer. The second elevator will eliminate the need for pedestrians to cross six lanes of traffic on S. Hayes Street, two parking lanes, and a bike lane to reach the one elevator currently in operation on the other side of S. Hayes Street, near the Pentagon Centre shopping center.

Gun-Toting Teen Arrested at Pentagon City Mall

January 21, 2021 at 1:30pm A teenager with a concealed handgun was taken into custody at the Fashion Centre at Pentagon City mall yesterday afternoon. The arrest does not appear to have a direct connection to the inauguration, though it took place on Inauguration Day as police were on high alert for possible security threats. An officer in an unmarked cruiser spotted the teen tucking a gun into his waistband as he entered the mall with four other juvenile suspects, according to an Arlington County Police Department crime report and scanner traffic. The officer then called for backup, and police were able to arrest the teen in the vicinity of the food court.

Arlington Restaurant Owners Eager for Access to New PPP Loans

January 15, 2021 at 12:30pm At the start of the pandemic, Arlington Kabob co-owner Susan Clementi spent 20 hours a day trying to coronavirus-proof her restaurant. She did not have time, or the financial knowledge, to navigate the Paycheck Protection Program. When she tried to hire legal help, the application fees amounted to $5,000. Clementi realized she had to do it herself. Arlington Kabob was denied funding, but what frustrated Clementi the most was seeing restaurants that had a dozen locations receive loans. “I felt very, very small,” she said. Her experience during the first round of PPP played out across the nation. The Small Business Administration and the banks issuing the loans were criticized for awarding funds first to bigger companies while overlooking smaller and minority-owned businesses. For round two, the SBA opened applications for small-scale, local lenders this week, and is expanding access to all eligible lenders next Tuesday.
