Howell council members adopt $54.84 million budget for 2021
HOWELL – It took two tries, but the members of the Howell Township Council, by a one-vote margin, have adopted a $54.84 million budget to fund municipal operations for 2021.
A public hearing on the budget was held during the council’s May 11 meeting. Several residents voiced concern about an increase in the line item for the five council members’ salaries from $37,500 to $60,000 (i.e., a possible raise in a council member’s salary from $7,500 to $12,000).
When the public hearing was closed, a motion was made to adopt the budget. Mayor Theresa Berger, Councilwoman Pamela Richmond and Councilwoman Evelyn O’Donnell voted “no.” Deputy Mayor Thomas Russo and Councilman John Bonevich voted “yes.” The motion failed 3-2 and the budget was not adopted.
Colts Neck school board adopts $27.8M budget for 2021-22
COLTS NECK – Members of the Colts Neck K-8 School District Board of Education have unanimously adopted a $27.8 million budget to support the operation of the school district during the 2021-22 school year.
The 2021-22 budget will be supported through the collection of $25 million in taxes from Colts Neck’s residential and commercial property owners. Property taxes account for about 90% of the budget’s revenue.
The school district’s 2020-21 budget totaled $27.17 million and was supported by a $24.39 million tax levy. From 2020-21 to 2021-22, total spending will increase by about $630,000 and the tax levy will increase by about $610,000.
Colts Neck officials adopt $13.6 million municipal budget for 2021
COLTS NECK – The members of the Township Committee have adopted a 2021 municipal budget that totals $13.67 million and will be supported by the collection of $8.28 million in taxes from Colts Neck’s residential and commercial property owners.
Officials will appropriate $2.4 million from Colts Neck’s surplus fund (savings) to be used as revenue in the budget and expect to receive $1.98 million in state aid.
The 2021 budget was unanimously adopted by committee members on April 28.
In 2020, Colts Neck’s adopted budget totaled $12.47 million and the local tax levy was $7.8 million. Officials appropriated $1.6 million from surplus and received $1.98 million in state aid.
FRHSD board puts $197.7M budget in place for 2021-22 academic year
The Freehold Regional High School District Board of Education has adopted a $197.7 million budget that will fund the operation of the district for the 2021-22 school year.
District administrators said the budget will be supported by the collection of $143.2 million in taxes from residential and commercial property owners in the district’s eight sending municipalities: Colts Neck, Englishtown, Farmingdale, Freehold Borough, Freehold Township, Howell, Manalapan and Marlboro.
The district operates high schools in Colts Neck, Freehold Borough, Freehold Township, Howell, Manalapan and Marlboro.
According to budget documents, the district’s enrollment decreased from 10,571 students in October 2019 to 10,376 students in October 2020. The estimated enrollment for October 2021 is 10,276 students.
