Eric Yen of Millbrae is the kind of frequent flier the airlines need to pay the bills.
He’s a high-yielding, high-value passenger the carriers fight to keep. When Yen needs to get somewhere for work, his presence is non-negotiable he has to be there.
Then the pandemic hit. Mass gatherings were out, and the exhibition industry he makes a living off of pulled the plug on in-person events.
In 2019, Yen logged upwards of 90,000 miles out of San Francisco International Airport flying around the U.S. and abroad attending trade fairs.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) A year after the pandemic first reached the Central Valley, business is finally picking up at Fresno travel agency Travel Shoppe. We are selling more than we are refunding now, so i am happy about that, said owner Cheri Verrastro.
Verrastro said 2020 was a tough year for most travel agencies.
The coronavirus forced them to cancel bookings, resulting in very little income flow.
The latest Air Travel Consumer Report shows that more than 102,000 complaints were filed against airline companies last year.
90,000 of those were for refunds.
