Black history mural drawn by students to be shown Wednesday at Framingham s Memorial Building FRAMINGHAM Late last February, just before the pandemic took hold, a group of Framingham families met at the Pelham Learning Center at an event celebrating Black History Month.  The event was hosted by Discovering Hidden Gems, a Framingham group that was formed in 2018 to help nourish and foster the city’s typically underserved youth and minority communities.   As part of the day’s activities, about 30 children came together to contribute to a large interactive art piece. Each child had been given a piece of paper to design, color and make his or her own. Features in the pieces of papers were drawings of historic Black Americans, as well as inventions credited to have been created by Black inventors.  

Mass website failed to filter out ineligible residents at vaccination site, mayor says

Frustration and outrage over the COVID-19 vaccination booking system in Massachusetts came to a head at one site on Saturday.Dozens of seniors with appointments at the Keefe Technical School in Framingham were told they were not eligible to be vaccinated at that site.Framingham Mayor Yvonne Spicer said the site is supposed to be strictly for city residents but added that the state s website failed to stop non-residents from booking an appointment. There was a glitch about having this be a closed site, Spicer said.Kamal Hingoriny, a semi-retired engineer, said he drove nearly an hour and a half to Framingham from his Swansea home after booking an appointment through the state s website. FRAMINGHAM – Nyosha Danika Homicil is frustrated that she still has to make it clear that Black lives matter. “You’d think that by now after countless years of continuous oppression and protesting that it would be over by now, right? “ the Framingham High School junior asked Monday morning in a pre-recorded video for the Greater Framingham Community Church’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s 34th annual celebration. “But that’s not the case, because every time people that look like me tried to stand up for others who have been falsely accused, shot down, and even stood on their necks for eight minutes, there always seems to be a problem.”
