It’s hardly news that America’s largest business entities, traditionally regarded as allies of the political right, now openly support radically progressive politics, to the point of bullying conservative-majority states and their politicians that don’t go along.
In March, South Dakota Republican Gov. Kristi Noem vetoed a bill that would have banned biological males from participating in girls’ and women’s sports at public schools after it became clear that the National Collegiate Athletic Association would retaliate by banning sports tournaments in the state.
A few weeks later another Republican governor, Asa Hutchinson of Arkansas, vetoed a bill barring puberty blockers, opposite-sex hormones, and surgery that would slice off breasts and genitals for youngsters under age 18 who claim transgender identity. BALTIMORE, MD (WEAA) Morgan State University and the University System of Maryland will require students, faculty and staff to receive the COVID-19 vaccine before returning to campuses in the fall.
Morgan State President Dr. David Wilson and the University System of Maryland Chancellor Jay Perman made the annoucements Friday morning.
Morgan is requiring all faculty, staff and students to have received a full vaccination by August 1, 2021.
“After careful consideration, extensive internal and external consultation and supportive feedback from a myriad of members from within our Morgan community, the best path forward to a return to normalcy is to require everyone within our community to get vaccinated,” said President Wilson. “The science is credible; vaccinations are the only way that we are going to achieve herd immunity, and everyone must be a part of that solution. Presented by LCEC, the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife’s weekly Virtual Speaker Series will continue on April 22 at 4 p.m. with “Conservation Biology of Reddish Egrets, Mangrove Cuckoos, and Swallow-tailed Kites on Sanibel Island: Racing Time in a Rapidly Changing World” with Ken Meyer, senior research ecologist and executive director for the Avian Research & Conservation Institute.
It will conclude on April 26 with “Tracking Loggerhead Sea Turtles from One of the Most Important Nesting Sites in the World” with Dr. Daniel Evans, senior research biologist with the Sea Turtle Conservancy.

When he was in the US Senate, President Biden was famous for taking Amtrak home to Wilmington, Delaware, each night and he often was called “Amtrak Joe” for his enthusiasm about passenger rail. Indeed, people who live in the Northeast Corridor from Washington to Boston find rail travel whether it be from Amtrak or other passenger lines to be a regular part of life.
I include myself among people who enjoy traveling by rail, and to celebrate New Year’s Day 2020, my wife and I took the overnight train from Seattle to Sacramento and thoroughly enjoyed our trip. When we go to San Francisco, we usually take the Amtrak to and from Sacramento and find the trip to be comfortable and relaxing. We also used Amtrak to take us to Monterey and back on an overnight trip a couple of years ago and we’d do it again.
