Mountain City Arts to present Erica Brown in virtual performance Mineral Daily News-Tribune FROSTBURG - Frostburg State University’s Mountain City Traditional Arts will present Erica Brown and the Bluegrass Connection in a virtual Christmas Eve celebration, “Songs for a Winter s Night,” on Thursday, Dec. 24, at 8 p.m. The Maine-based band will stream an hour of seasonal and holiday songs while you sit by your cozy fire, or perhaps in the glow of your Christmas tree, enjoying your favorite winter beverage. The Bluegrass Connection have been five very busy musical elves working on holiday and seasonal songs for this concert, and who knows what surprises may happen!

Students were perplexed, parents were stressed, teachers were overwhelmed, and schools were ill-prepared to roll out an entirely new structure for online learning. However, as time passed, we’ve become somewhat more accustomed to our new normal. Virtual learning is not as personal, effective, or sustainable as the beloved in-person classroom instruction that we didn’t know we’d miss until it was gone. FSU Engineering Student Bria Johnson Receives Prestigious Department of Energy Fellowship For Frostburg State University engineering student Bria Johnson, getting to participate in the U.S. Department of Energy s prestigious Mickey Leland Energy Fellowship (MLEF) program this past summer was a tremendous honor. She was even more honored when her research project was highlighted on the DOE s official website. Johnson spent the 10-week program working on Materials Modeling and Simulation or Supply Chain Assessments determining the long-term creep strength and life of a corrosion- and heat-resistant nickel-base alloy. Her research assignment was monitored by top scientists at the DOE s Office of Fossil Energy. Garrett County Chamber of Commerce names new membership development manager

Lauren Heilig MCHENRY — Lauren Heilig has joined the Garrett County Chamber of Commerce as its new membership development manager. A lifelong resident of Garrett County, Heilig holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Frostburg State University. She has extensive experience in customer service and support, data management, social media and event planning. Heilig has learned about small businesses from her family and is familiar with the resources and support provided by the Chamber of Commerce. Her first day on the job was Dec. 7. Her experience as a coordinator for a community-based organization even led Heilig to become a Garrett County Chamber member in 2019 and attend Chamber events. She has a deep love for Garrett County and has communicated her desire to continue to serve her community, which she will be able to do in her new role.
