LOUISVILLE, Ky. 2020 was the year of cancellations, no proms, graduations or end-of-year ceremonies but for the class of 2021, that may change.
New Albany Floyd County Schools will offer COVID-19 vaccines to students on campus to increase safety at large gatherings. This is a population that while they re not greatly at risk by vaccinating them we can avoid them becoming a vector to people who are more at risk, Floyd County Health Officer, Dr. Thomas Harris said.

Starting this month, the Floyd County Health Department will be setting up clinics at some New Albany Floyd County Schools to administer coronavirus vaccines for high school students.
The vaccine will be offered primarily to juniors and seniors, or students ages 16 or 17, beginning April 22. It s not so much that the children are at risk. . The issue is, you know, there are family members that might be more vulnerable and have medical problems, and this is one less person to spread this disease. So, that s sort of the driving concept, Floyd County Health Officer Tom Harris said.
The Indiana school district s first clinics will be set up at Floyd Central High School and New Albany High School. Parent permission is required.
