Osage man killed in Hwy 218 collision – KCHA News

Chris BergJanuary 29, 2021Last Updated: January 29, 2021 Osage, IA – An Osage man was killed in a Friday afternoon crash in southern Mitchell County. The collision occurred at the intersection of Highway 218 and 320 th Street at 1:32pm. The Iowa State Patrol says 66-year-old Steven Kapping of Osage was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado westbound on 320 th Street when he failed to stop at the stop sign at Highway 218 and was hit by a 1988 Kenworth semi driven by 45-year-old Darin M. Tusler, also of Osage, who was heading southbound. Kapping was transported to Mitchell County Regional Health in Osage where he was pronounced dead. He was not wearing a seatbelt. Tusler was not injured.

Two arrested on drug trafficking charges in Floyd County

Two people were arrested in Floyd County Wednesday night and charged with drug trafficking. Deputies with the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office, along with K-9 “Drago” joined the Martin Police in making a traffic stop. Deputies say when they searched the vehicle, they found crystal meth, plastic baggies, other drugs and $20,000 in cash. They arrested Brian Shepherd, 37, of Prestonsburg, along with Tequila Gould of Berea. The pair is charged with trafficking in a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance. The two were taken to the Floyd County Jail. Police say the investigation is ongoing and additional charges are pending.

Floyd County Sheriff s Office K-9 Lita receives donation of body armor

Sheriff John Hunt says these “vests are an investment into the K-9 program.” It’s an investment the sheriff says is helping to clean up the streets of Floyd County. For Lita’s handler, Deputy Kevin Johnson, the addition of the vest helps to provide an ease of mind while the two are at work. “Just her [Lita] presence makes my job a lot safer,” Johnson said. “It’s a great thing, just knowing I don’t have to worry about her getting possibly shot or injured whenever we’re trying to do our job. It’s a relief.” All K-9 officers of the Floyd County Sheriff’s K-9 unit are equipped with body armor. K-9 Drago received his vest in July.

City of Allen approves inter-local agreement with Prestonsburg Police

According to Prestonsburg city officials, leaders in the city of Allen terminated their police presence in early January. City officials say this decision was made in the best interest of the community. After the termination of police presence, both Floyd County Sheriff’s Office and the Prestonsburg Police Department were contacted to give contract law enforcement proposals to Allen city commissioners. Upon reviewing the proposals, Allen City Commissioners voted unanimously to enter an inter-local agreement with the City of Prestonsburg for police protection. Before taking affect, Prestonsburg Mayor Les Stapleton says that Prestonsburg City Council will need to approve the agreement in their next meeting on Jan. 25.
