Multiple COVID-19 vaccination sites delay opening due to weather

The Gateway Mall COVID-19 vaccination site will be closed for the remainder of Sunday due to the inclement weather moving through the area, according to FEMA. FEMA said closing the site is a safety precaution as there has been lightning and some flooding at the facility. The site is expected to open back up at 7 a.m. Monday.  For people who missed their appointed date to get the second dose of the Pfzier vaccine, FEMA encouraged them to come when the site is open to receive their vaccine. 

Where to Get Johnson & Johnson Vaccine in Miami, Florida

Miami Dade College North Campus Starting today, Florida s four federal vaccination sites in Miami, Tampa, Orlando, and Jacksonville will administer the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. In Miami, the federal site is at Miami Dade College s North Campus, 11380 NW 27th Ave. The site is open daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and no appointment is necessary. As of now, the site plans to have up to 3,000 doses available per day. ICYMI: Beginning today, the federally-supported vaccination sites in Tampa, Orlando, Jacksonville & Miami can administer up to 3,000 doses of the J&J vaccine at each site. Florida has expanded its COVID-19 vaccine eligibility and distribution, but there’s uncertainty if all the vaccines will be used. A large supply of COVID-19 vaccines from the federal government is expected to arrive in Florida next week. It comes at the same time vaccine eligibility will be extended to those 18 and older, as well as teens who have parental consent. However, there is a question as to whether the increased availability will be taken advantage of. Vaccine demand has dropped over the past few weeks at both federally-run sites like the Tampa Greyhound Track and state-operated ones like Raymond James Stadium.

Central Florida pharmacies preparing for next expansion of COVID-19 vaccine eligibility Megan Cruz, Charles Frazier Starting Monday, Floridians as young as 16 will be eligible for COVID-19 vaccines. Even local pharmacies that aren’t yet offering the vaccines are busy preparing as demand for the vaccine grows along with an increase in available doses. Dr. Amy Lynn Safaty is the Pharmacy Manager at the CVS store on West Sand Lake Road in Orange County. Dr. Safaty’s store is one that doesn’t currently offer COVID-19 vaccines, but they’ve been busy preparing for the day that may change. “I really hope that we will, yes,” Dr. Safaty says. “Honestly, every week, I keep hoping that we’re going to get the call that we will get the vaccine.”
