Jacksonville long-term care facilities to get coronavirus vaccine

The Florida Times-Union Vaccinations at Florida s long-term care facilities started Friday with River City Rehab Center in Jacksonville among the first places to get a round of doses aimed at shielding high-risk residents from catching the COVID-19 virus that has taken a deadly toll on older residents during the pandemic. The state will expand the vaccinations to more nursing homes and assisted living facility by drawing from about 65,000 Pfizer vaccine doses sent to Walgreens and CVS so the pharmacy chains can send teams into the facilities for injections to residents and staff members. Long-term care facility residents have suffered the most from the pandemic. Their age and underlying health conditions have made them vulnerable to severe health complications from the virus. Even those spared from infection dealt with the emotional burden of tight restrictions on visits from family members to curb the spread of the virus in the facilities.
