Baptist Health seeing an ‘all-time high’ of COVID-19 hospitalizations
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – In a statement Tuesday, Baptist Health’s president and CEO says Northeast Florida has been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic, “but it’s never been as bad as it is now.”
Michael Mayo, Baptist’s CEO, writes that the company’s hospitals are seeing an all-time high of COVID-19-related hospitalizations. He said on Tuesday, the number of patients hospitalized at Baptist hospitals for COVID surpassed 400.
“Though this figure changes daily, the percentage of unvaccinated patients has consistently stayed above 97% during this surge,” Mayo writes.

PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. – The News4Jax I-TEAM is piecing together what happened in the moments before a personal watercraft accident that killed UF Health Jacksonville CEO Dr. Leon Haley Jr.
On Tuesday, the I-TEAM obtained a crash report that reveals what witnesses saw seconds before he crashed into a jetty on Saturday while on a Yamaha WaveRunner in the Palm Beach Inlet and how the witnesses tried to help him immediately after the accident. More photos obtained by the I-TEAM show the WaveRunner lying on top of the jetty after the accident.

James Owen, who has not been vaccinated, has since returned home, where he is now recovering with his wife, Ashely. Both contracted COVID-19 while at a Fourth of July party, although his wife did not have to go to the hospital.
