Report: Fatal fire in NW Marion County was accident
State investigators have concluded that the fire that killed an Ocala woman in March was accidental.
The state Bureau of Fire, Arson and Explosives investigator said in his report that the 51-year-old woman was transported to Shands on March 21. While in the hospital, McBride s health declined and she eventually died.
The listed probable cause of death in the Medical Examiners Office report is complication of thermal burns with inhalation. The report mentions pneumonia, coronary artery disease and hypertension and several other illnesses as contributing factors.
In his report, Pudlo said he believes the fire originated at or near ground level on the east wall of her mobile home, where multiple devices are located. The burn patterns in the area that had an entertainment center indicated that the fire spread to nearby furniture. The heat formed what was described as a hot gas layer.
