NHAI starts work on 28 oxygen plants in state | Nagpur News

Work on oxygen plant in Akola Nagpur: To tide over the oxygen crisis for Covid-19 patients, of the 581 oxygen generation plants to be set up in the country, 28 will be installed at various state government hospitals in Maharashtra. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has launched civil and electrical works for these plants. NHAI officials said that of the 28 captive medical oxygen plants, 6 will be set up by the Defence Research Development Organization (DRDO) and 22 by HLL Infra Tech Services (HITES). Nationally, DRDO will set up 400 plants while HITES will install 181 plants. Regional NHAI officials said work on one 100 litres per minute (LPM) and 500 LPM plant for a 30-bed hospital in Warud in Amravati district and a 100-bed district women’s hospital in Akola has already started.

NEW DELHI: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has delegated financial powers to its regional offices to engage the contractors who are already carrying out NH works in different areas to fast track the construction of structures for setting up of Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) medical oxygen plants. Though NHAI is involved in construction of structures for nearly 580 such plants across the country, work will start at 200 locations on priority. Sources said the pace of construction will be in sync with the installation of medical oxygen plants. Two entities – Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and HLL Infra Tech Services (HITES) – have been given the task to set up the captive medical oxygen plants across the country. Sources said while the structures for DRDO plants can be done in a week or 10 days, the plants by HITES need proper RCC structure and would take at least a month.
