Austin âA.C.â McLane, who served as Tampaâs police chief from 1987-91, died Friday at the age of 81.
McLaneâs wife said he died at home in his native Georgia, surrounded by loved ones. The Tampa Police Department announced his death on Saturday of complications stemming from pancreatic cancer.

Public works crews monitoring river levels Share Updated: 4:49 PM EST Dec 26, 2020 Heavy rain from Christmas Day kept parts of downtown Augusta closed due to flooding on Saturday. These photos were posted on the Augusta Police Department’s Facebook page.Rising river levels resulted in water spilling into the Front Street parking lot in Augusta.The north end remains closed as public works crews wait for the river to return back to normal levels.
According to the Augusta Public Works Facebook Page, Augusta s Front Street parking lot will be closed from now (12/25/2020 5:54 PM) until further notice due to the risk of flooding.
With the region seeing nearly 2.0 inches of rain on Christmas day accompanied by higher than normal temperatures and rapid snow melt, the department is expecting the Kennebec River to crest her banks sometimes overnight on Christmas.
Below is the statement from the department s Facebook page indicating that the water may even reach the backs of the buildings. As always, we remind you to never go near flood water as currents and water levels can change rapidly and with water temperatures this low, any extended exposure could result in hypothermia or worse.
Communities across Central Maine can expect more than 2 inches of rain and wind gusts up to 50 mph, with officials saying flooding and power outages are possible.

ELLSWORTH A driver attempting to park his vehicle instead drove into a Mill Mall storefront on Dec. 16.
Robert B. Drach, 37, of Tallahassee, Fla., thought he had placed his 2020 Honda sport utility vehicle in park when he pulled in front of Tag’s Sports Bar at 11:55 a.m. But he had not. Then, to compound matters, Drach accidentally stepped on the gas, he told police.
Three plate glass windows were broken in the building, which is owned by Roger Grant of Ellsworth. Drach’s Honda was damaged in the front right corner. The crash report noted that Drach had operated his vehicle in an “erratic, reckless, careless, negligent or aggressive manner.” No drug or alcohol tests were deemed necessary, no personal injuries were reported and, as of the issuance of the report, no charges were filed.
