Augusta: Front Street Parking lot Closed due to Probable Flooding

According to the Augusta Public Works Facebook Page, Augusta s Front Street parking lot will be closed from now (12/25/2020 5:54 PM) until further notice due to the risk of flooding. With the region seeing nearly 2.0 inches of rain on Christmas day accompanied by higher than normal temperatures and rapid snow melt, the department is expecting the Kennebec River to crest her banks sometimes overnight on Christmas. Below is the statement from the department s Facebook page indicating that the water may even reach the backs of the buildings. As always, we remind you to never go near flood water as currents and water levels can change rapidly and with water temperatures this low, any extended exposure could result in hypothermia or worse.
