Massachusetts restaurant workers report decline in tips, increase in sexual harassment from customers during COVID pandemic
Updated Dec 15, 2020;
Even though restaurants in Massachusetts reopened for indoor dining during the coronavirus pandemic, things didn’t go back to business as usual.
Workers saw a decline in tips, increase in sexual harassment from customers and hostility towards safety protocols, according to a new study by One Fair Wage and The UC Berkeley Food Labor Research Center.
The study documented service workers’ experiences of returning to work in restaurants during the pandemic.
“Understanding these workers’ experiences is critical not only to addressing the needs of these workers and their families, but also to stemming the growing public health crisis,” the study said.
