Pijush Hazarika during a press conference at Janata Bhawan in Guwahati on Thursday GUWAHATI: The Assam cabinet has given the nod to bring a law in the state assembly for cow protection, parliamentary affairs minister Pijush Hazarika informed the media here on Thursday. “We announced earlier that the Assam government will bring a new legislation for cattle preservation or gou suraksha. Our cabinet meeting on Wednesday gave its approval in this regard,” said Hazarika. Assam governor Jagdish Mukhi, in his speech in the last assembly session in May, said that the state government would soon bring a cow protection bill to ban transport to and from the state. Later, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, while speaking during the discussion on the motion of thanks on the governor s speech, told the House, “We believe that cow is our mother and people worship it. So, we do not want cows to come from West Bengal. We will want that at places where cow is worshipped, it is not consumed

INDIA New England News Guwahati–The BJP government in Assam would enact a cow protection law and a Bill in this regard would be introduced in the next Assembly session beginning on July 12, to prohibit smuggling and transport of the animal outside the state, a minister said here on Thursday. State Information and Public Relations Minister Pijush Hazarika said that the Assam Cabinet at a meeting here on Wednesday approved a Cattle Preservation Bill and it would be moved in the Budget session of the Assembly. Hazarika, who also holds the Parliamentary Affairs Department, told the media that the Cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma decided to repeal the existing ‘Assam Cattle Preservation Act, 1950’ and introduce ‘The Assam Cattle Preservation Bill, 2021’ in the upcoming session.
