Assam Assembly Session from May 21

GUWAHATI: A three-day Assam Assembly session has been summoned by Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi. This would be the first sitting of the 15th Assam Legislative Assembly. The session would start on May 21.
According to sources, on day one, May 21, all the newly elected 125 MLAs (barring the pro-tem Speaker) will be administered the oath of secrecy. The pro-tem Speaker will have to take oath before the Assembly Session.
On May 22, the Governor would address the Assembly and on May 24, the concluding day of the three-day Assembly session, the motion of thanks for Governor s speech has been scheduled. May 23 is Sunday therefore there will be no sitting of the Assembly.

Outgoing Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Sunday submitted his resignation to Governor Jagdish Mukhi. Sarbananda Sonowal was in Delhi on Saturday to hold meetings with top party leadership, including Home Minister Amit Shah and party president JP Nadda, to discuss the leadership issue.
Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is said to be crowned the next Assam chief minister, and Sarbananda Sonowal have reached the Assam Legislative Assembly where a decision on the state leadership will be taken.

Guwahati: In just a few hours from now Assam will know who its next Chief Minister will be. A meeting of the Assam BJP legislature party will begin at 12 PM at the conference hall of the Assam Legislative Assembly in Dispur. The elected 60 BJP MLAs would elect the name of the next CM of Assam.
