Picture used for representational purpose only GUWAHATI: The Assam government will utilise the contribution of over Rs 100 crore made by people of the state to help the state government combat Covid-19 pandemic to purchase the vaccines for general people if Centre does not bear the entire cost. State health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the Centre will bear the cost of vaccines required for only the 2.9 lakh registered beneficiaries from two categories health care workers (HCWs) and frontline workers (FLWs) of the state, who will be vaccinated in the first two phases starting from Saturday. The third phase of vaccination will be for people of 50 years of age and above and those with morbidities of any age. After the completion of the vaccination of these three prioritized groups, vaccination will be carried out for the general people.

The adult buffalo, which strayed from the Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve (KNPTR), was killed at Kumoliya after it attacked four persons, leaving one dead and two injured. Biswanath Wildlife Division DFO Mukut Chandra Das told TOI, “The buffalo, which appeared in the park’s Biswanath division, killed a villager, Jayanta Das (45), on Thursday morning. A mahout is also killed on Thursday by an elephant, which is now being tranquilised.” Das’s death created public anger and sparked a protest with the locals torching a forest range office and Mahindra Bolero vehicle at the site. The animal attacked and killed another person named Sukur Ali on Friday morning.

IIT-Guwahati GUWAHATI: A team of research scholars of the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (IIT-G) has developed a digital health system that can offer healthcare to a large population, especially in remote areas. Mitali Basak, a 3rd year PhD student at the Centre for Nanotechnology, IIT Guwahati, and Shirsendu Mitra, former PhD scholar at the department of chemical engineering, IIT Guwahati, teamed up for the innovation at the Global Charm Health Innovation Challenge in the category ‘student innovators’. Mitra is currently an Early Career Fellow at IIT Gandhinagar. The bench top digital setup is integrated with an algorithm to record initial screening parameters like body temperature, pulse rate, eye and tongue analysis of a patient remotely.
