The new bill tabled by Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma will “create a mechanism to regulate the microfinance institutions or money lending agencies or organisations”

Guwahati: The government of Assam introduced a bill in the assembly on Monday, which seeks to protect the economically vulnerable individuals and groups from the hardship of being charged exorbitant interest rates and coercive means of recovery by money lending agencies or microfinance institutions.
Assam Finance Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma tabled The Assam Micro Finance Institutions (Regulation of Money Lending) Bill, 2020, on the first day of Winter session of the assembly. The bill proposes to create an effective mechanism to regulate the microfinance institutions or money lending agencies or organisations .

Guwahati: Over five thousand COVID-19 Safai Karmi (cleaning staffs) on Tuesday observed hunger strike against the government and the Health department s indifferent attitude towards the COVID-19 warriors at Sasal area in Guwahati.
A protester Safai Karmi said that they are bound to hold this strike as during the COVID pandemic the Health Department of Assam appointed them as Lab Technicians, ward boys, and cleaning staff promising a lot, but then did not deliver any of those.
After 10 months of submission, Sonowal govt yet to examine report on clause 6 of Assam Accord
The decision to form the legal committee was taken after the meeting between Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal in September this year, he added.

GUWAHATI: The Assam government on Monday said it is yet to examine the report on clause 6 of the Assam Accord prepared by the Centre s high-level committee even though it was submitted 10 months ago.
In a written reply to a query by Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary said the government had decided to form a legal committee to look into the report.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a meeting with Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Saturday to review the law and order situation in the state.
