Assam State Power Workers Union protests transfer of employees
The Assam State Power Workers’ Union has strongly protested the transfer of three employees of APGCL, NTPS of Namrup, Dibrugarh by the management of Assam Power Generation Corporation Limited (APGCL). This was stated here on Friday by publicity secretary Utpal Saikia and assistant publicity secretary Pranab Khatniar in a press statement.

Dima Hasao (Assam): The Centre and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have signed a loan of USD 231 million for the construction of 120 megawatts (MW) run-of-the-river hydroelectric project over Assam s Kopili river. The hydropower project on the Kopili river and Umrong stream, its tributary, is located in Assam s Dima Hasao district. It is scheduled to be commissioned by the year 2025.
ADB and the Government of India signed the loan agreement on Wednesday. This is the third tranche loan for the ongoing Assam Power Sector Investment Program, which was approved by the ADB board in July 2014. The programme, including its two previous tranches, focuses on enhancing capacity and efficiency of the energy generation and distribution systems in Assam to improve electricity service to end users. The proposed hydroelectric project is run-of-the-river project over Kopili river which will help increase electricity supplied from clean energy by 469 gigawatt-hour (GWh) by 2025 and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 3.6 lakh tonnes of carbon dioxide annually, ADB said in a release.
