GUWAHATI: Peasant activist and Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leader Akhil Gogoi, who has been in jail for over one year now after being arrested for alleged Maoist links, may contest 2021 assembly polls from Sivasagar.
Even as KMSS-backed political party Raijor Dal has vowed to make Akhil’s release a key poll issue ahead of the ensuing assembly election, the party’s chief convener Bhasco De Saikia said that the 70-organization front headed by KMSS has sent a resolution to them, seeking the jailed peasant leader’s candidature from Sivasagar.

JORHAT: All Assam Students’ Union (Aasu) and Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) on Tuesday demanded that the government should order a high-level probe into the rhino horn smuggling incident in Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve.
Aasu president Dipanka Kumar Nath said, “We want the high-level probe to be carried out at the earliest. We have also demanded that the government should conduct an inquiry against all forest officials in Kaziranga and the local police.”
Nath added, “There have been several allegations that forest staffers of Kaziranga are involved in rhino poaching and smuggling in and around the park. Some police officers are also allegedly involved in this racket. Therefore, we want the government to carry out a probe against all forest and police officials to unearth the truth.”

“Respecting the call of AJP workers, I announce my decision to join them during the upcoming Sivasagar convention. I am confident that in Assam, a new government will be formed under the leadership of regional forces in 2021. In the days to come, laying down a strong foundation of regionalism to resist the aggression of Delhi-based parties will be our main goal,” Gogoi said.
