NONTHABURI: Police arrested 40 people at a house that had been converted into gambling den in Bang Bua Thong district late on Thursday night.
The illegal casino was operating in defiance of government requests the pubic help control Covid-19 by ceasing risky behaviour and avoiding crowded gatherings, including visits to gambling dens.
Crime Suppression Division (CSD) police raided house 14/11 at the mouth of Soi Wat Lad Pladuk off Kanchanaphisek Road about 10.30pm on Thursday, acting on a tip-off.
Of the 40 arrested people, 33 were Thai gamblers and the other seven migrant employees.

Crime Suppression Division (CSD) police arrested 22 suspected gamblers in a crackdown on suspected gambling venues in various areas in Bangkok and nearby provinces on Saturday night.
Pol Maj Gen Suwat Saengnoom, the CSD commander, said the crackdown was part of ongoing efforts to contain Covid-19 after crowded gambling dens were linked to the latest outbreak.
On Saturday night, CSD teams were deployed in various areas including Bang Phlat, Nakhon Chai Si road, Pathumwan, Paet Sip Hong community, Rot Fai 3 community and Bang Yi Rua where gambling was suspected to be in operation.
