New Delhi, April 7 : Adar Poonawalla s Serum Institute of India (SII) has been served a legal notice by AstraZeneca over delays in supplying the Covid vaccine.
Poonawalla has mentioned that the existing production capacity to manufacture Covishield in India is under pressure due to increased demand in India.
Poonawalla has also mentioned as per reports that the Indian government s pause on major Covishield shipments to other countries and the first claim deal with India were difficult to explain abroad, where the vaccine was sold at a higher cost per dose.
Adar Poonawalla’s Serum Institute of India planned and executed their Covid-19 vaccine drive with the launch of CovidShield, to perfection. Not only did they manage to get the vaccine approved in real-quick time, but the mass production meant distribution activities were on also cue. But, Poonawalla isn’t the only player that had his vaccine approved and distributed. There were a string of players from the Indian pharma industry who laid foot in the vaccine race. With this feature, we list down two of the richest pharma business magnates who could soon be sending out doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Pfizer has decided to give India a miss with its Covid-19 vaccine at least for now. On Friday, the pharma giant decided to withdraw its application for emergency use authorisation (EUA) of its vaccine, which it developed in association with Germany s BioNTech.
Pfizer, which is believed to have spent more than $2 billion developing the vaccine, was one of the first pharma companies to have applied for EUA in India. The pharma major applied for an EU with the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) in December. Subsequently, its India officials did not appear for a meeting with the regulator as bridging trial studies (trials on the Indian population) a necessary step for receiving marketing approval in the Indian market had not been conducted by them.
Adar Poonawalla and his wife, entrepreneur and philanthropist Natasha Poonawalla have been making royal appearances in society pages eons before Instagram took over our lives. The coupleâs known to holiday with Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan in Gstaad and jet-set across the worldâs select few fashion capitals to sit in the front rows of fashion week shows.
