George Floyd. Chauvin faces a maximum of 40 years in prison.
Chauvin’s conviction resonated globally, with foreign dignitaries and community leaders reacting to a verdict across social media. The verdict highlights the ongoing national conversation about police reform and racial inequality in justice systems globally.
Floyd, a Black man, died on Memorial Day after Chauvin, who is white, pinned his knee against Floyd’s neck for more than nine minutes as Floyd cried out for his mother and said “I can’t breathe” more than 20 times.

Slavery was a way of life in all parts of the globe throughout antiquity and it is still in operation today in some places. Some Americans who call themselves Foundational Black Americans (FBA) and Descendants of American Slaves (ADOS) have been demanding Reparations of Slavery from the government of the United States. However, these demands have not been taken seriously thus far, and truth be told, these demands are never going to be taken seriously because the claimants lack legal standing.

Many Black Americans were enthralled when President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were inaugurated Wednesday, Jan. 20, but some Black Chicago activists aren’t depending on the country’s new leadership to make gains for them.
“I’m afraid that Biden and Harris won’t be held accountable,” Brave Space Alliance coordinator and organizer Tatyana Chante told Block Club Chicago. “I don’t think they’ll cause as much damage as Trump would’ve done if he had been elected for another four years, but I am worried about what they won’t get done.”
