RUTHIE HAUGE, MICHELLE STOCKER & ILANA BAR-AV The year 2020 was historic, from the impeachment of a U.S. president to the election of a new president and the fight against a pandemic. Communities came together to march against systemic racism and lift each other up during unprecedented challenges.   Time seemed to stand still as we learned and worked and taught from home. Some in our communities lost their homes. Food banks were busy and theaters were boarded up. Creatively reopening our city meant finding safe ways to interact and reimagine mundane life that was missed. Throughout a time of great turmoil and catastrophic loss, hope was still found and the meaning of togetherness was solidified.

MADISON, Wis. - More than 1 million Americans have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, marking an important milestone in combatting the coronavirus pandemic. While millions more are eager to get the shot, others remain leery of it. Health experts say that in order to return to life as it was, 70% to 75% of the population will need to be vaccinated.

ONLINE: Wisconsin Ensemble Project Wisconsin Ensemble Project The Wisconsin Ensemble Project (aka WE Project) is a new group formed by professional musicians during the dark times of COVID-19 to bring songs and light to worthy organizations. The group s inaugural online concert features chamber music by Black women composers and benefits the Foundation for Black Women s Wellness. The program includes Strum and Voodoo Dolls, by Jessie Montgomery; Modes, by Dorothy Rudd Moore; and String Quartet in G Major, by Florence Price. Performers are Christopher Dozoryst, Karl Lavine, Leanne League and Mary Theodore. The concert will be available through Jan. 3 at wisconsinensembleproject.com, and donations will be accepted.

UW Health staff working with communities of color to inform about COVID-19 vaccine December 23, 2020 6:14 PM Jamie Perez Updated: MADISON, Wis. Communities of color are known to be disproportionately impacted by COVID-19. These same communities are also said to be some of the most hesitant to get the vaccine due to a history of distrust in the health care system. Staff members at UW Health are working with local organizations who work with communities of color to inform them on the vaccine including what’s in it, what the side effects are, how accessible it will be and what the trial process involved.
