STATE OF NATION: Stop the bleeding, end carnage now, CSOs urge Buhari On Hundreds of Civil Society Organisations in Nigeria have petitioned President Muhammadu Buhari to, as a matter of urgency, stop the escalating security concerns in the country. They further alarmed that the first quarter of 2021 witnessed an all-time high fatalities mass atrocity incidences across the country. The petitio signed by the Joint Action Civil Society Coalition/Nigeria Mourns Secretariat and made available to Vanguard revealed that “Following its sharp increase of 43 per cent in mass atrocities 2020, Nigeria has continued to experience a decline in security across the nation. CSO writes A-Ibom CP over prolonged incarceration of widow, son

By Chioma Onuegbu A Civil Social Organization, COMMPART Foundation for Justice and Peace Building has written to Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Mr Andrew Amiengheme, demanding the unconditional release from detention one Mrs. Naomi Ebong, a widow and her son, Kufre Ebong accused of killing one Mr. Aniekan Udoh. The Executive Director of the Organisation, Mr Saviour Akpan in the letter dated, February 26, and sent to the CP on March 1, 2021, stated that the duo detained in police custody since February 10, 2021, should have been either released on bail to a reliable surety pending conclusion of investigation or charged to court.

They can also be sentenced to life in prison This is exactly what happened to activist and author Cyntoia Brown, who spoke at this year’s Rethinking Reentry Symposium on Tuesday afternoon. The symposium, organized by the UTK College of Law and the Tennessee Journal of Race, Gender and Social Justice, featured discussion on reentry to society after incarceration and voting rights. The event was organized by Taylor Flake-Lawson, who interviewed Brown during the lecture, and led by symposium editor Johnelle Simpson. In conjunction with the symposium, the UT Legal Clinic, along with UT law students, will be holding a clinic on March 20 to help individuals restore their voting rights.
