Property rates for the 2021/22 financial year have been
officially adopted by Hastings District Council
today.
This follows consultation with the community
through the Long Term Plan 2021-2031 process, and the final
decisions on the work programme and budget that were decided
in June.
The average rates increase across the
district is 6.9 per cent, which will fall differently on
different categories of property and what services they are
connected to.
Hastings mayor Sandra Hazlehurst said
councillors carefully considered more than 700 community
responses to the Long Term Plan consultation, including 165
formal submissions, when striking the balance between
delivering projects and keeping rates

Today marks the official launch of the 2021 event
programme for ARONUI, an Indigenous arts festival held
annually in Te Rotoruanui-a-Kahumatamomoe. This year’s
Festival runs from September 9 to 19 and includes Te Wiki o
Te Reo Māori, celebrating film, visual and traditional art,
Te Reo Māori, music and theatre.
Rotorua-born Troy
Kingi will be returning to his roots to headline ARONUI.

The first half of 2021 has got off to a superb start for
sales of farm equipment.
Tractor and Machinery
Association of New Zealand (TAMA) president Kyle Baxter said
there had been substantial sales increases across all
tractor horsepower segments and equipment compared with the
same time last year.
Mr Baxter said the big increases
reflected a continuing catch up in on-farm vehicle
investment as farmers looked again to the
future. It s fantastic to see the confidence continue
across all of the sectors, and in turn this confidence
flowing into wider economy.

Great South Destination Development Manager Amie Young
was awarded the Dark Sky Project Bright Star Award at the
Royal Astronomical Society of NZ’s annual conference in
Wellington this month.
A ‘bright star’ recognises
contributions to the promotion of astronomy and dark skies
within New Zealand, and the award itself is in the shape of
an astrolabe, which is an ancient instrument used to make
astronomical measurements.
Amie has been working on
dark sky tourism opportunities for Southland since June 2017
through her role at Great South.
