The New Zealand Nurses Organisation (NZNO) says its
30,000 members working in DHBs have voted in favour of three
more strikes: July 29/30 (24 hours), August 19 (8 hours),
September 9/10 (24 hours). The strike ballot closed at 12
Noon today.
NZNO lead advocate David Wait said the
vote was very high and members clearly remain resolute about
ongoing strike action to achieve the recognition and working
conditions that will ensure nursing remains a viable
profession. This is an history-making set of actions
that could take place over the next few months, but we will
be continuing discussions with the DHBs this week and we

and Amelia Eades were bestowed with a National Achievement
Award by Governor General Rt Hon Dame Patsy Reddy.
The
Governor-General, who is the patron of the New Zealand Down
Syndrome Association (NZDSA), also handed out the Val
Sturgess Volunteer of the Year Award to Kathryn Sadgrove
from Northland.
The awards had to be postponed in 2020
due to the Covid 19 lockdown, so the selection panel had a
difficult task picking winners from a large group of
well-deserving and high-calibre nominations across two
years.

The changing faces of everyday Cantabrians will be on
display in a new exhibition of images from New Zealand’s
longest-running photography studio, Standish and
Preece.

Standish and Preece:
Christchurch Photographers 1885–2020 showcases a
selection of the 75,000 images in Canterbury Museum’s
collection that were captured by the studio.
During
the Level 4 lockdown last year, the Museum put 32,000 of the
Standish and Preece images onto its Collections Online
website, calling on the public to help identify the many

National’s Mental Health and Suicide Prevention
spokesperson Matt Doocey is welcoming people to tune in to
Parliament this Thursday as the Zero Suicide Aotearoa Report
is launched.
The milestone is testament to effective
cross-party collaboration, which Doocey said was vital to
achieving outcomes for those affected by mental health
issues.
Its importance is recognised with a
Parliamentary debate ahead of the
launch.

younger generation who have the vocabulary to talk about
mental health, they don’t face as much stigma as previous
generations and they’re challenging politicians to talk
Pelvic health petition supported by 55,000 going
to Parliament.
A petition calling for
improved pelvic floor care for New Zealand women, pre and
post birth will be presented to Parliament this
week.
More than 55,000 people have signed a
similar online petition which asks the Government to improve
pre and post birth care for all women.
The pelvic
health petition will be formally handed over at 1pm this
Thursday, on the steps of Parliament.
The online
petition was created by Kirsty Watt, a personal trainer who
strongly believes women aren t receiving the care they need
after giving birth.
