The tyrannical, brutal cynicism of keeping Julian Assange
in Belmarsh prison remains one of the more inglorious marks
of the British legal system and, it should be said, its
sponsors and colluders. Having won his case against
extradition to the US, if only in deeply qualified terms,
the UK keeps the WikiLeaks publisher banged up as the
appeals process stutters.
The case against Assange
could have been thrown out under any number of grounds.
Unfortunately, the judgment halting his extradition to the
US on 17 charges based on the Espionage Act and one charge
of computer intrusion was framed in purposely narrow terms,

“The National Party should take a stand against the
United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous
People (UNDRIP), even if it has to reverse its previous
position,” says ACT Leader David Seymour.
“Judith
Collins is correct when she says that Labour is the
major culprit here for commissioning the He Puapua report,
but Labour was empowered to do so by National signing the
UNDRIP.
“If National wants to send a major signal it
would be to stand with ACT and line up to renounce
it.
“Collins might just find that her own MPs agree
with ACT’s position.
