This week, during Scottish Apprenticeship Week, we are celebrating all the many benefits of modern apprenticeships and foundation apprenticeships for individuals, employers and the local economy.
Modern Apprenticeships
Modern Apprenticeships enable employers to develop the skills they need to adapt, sustain, and strengthen their businesses. Talented individuals of all ages and backgrounds have the chance to reach their potential with an apprenticeship.
In these challenging times, apprentices can play a vital role in ensuring employers in multiple industry sectors have a healthy pipeline of talent coming through.
Available in a variety of industry sectors – from construction or food and drink, to business administration and engineering, as well as many more.. Modern Apprenticeships offer over 16s the opportunity to train for a nationally recognised qualification whilst being in paid employment.

To avoid a ‘lost generation’, the new Young Person’s Guarantee aims to ensure all young Scots get the chance to succeed through an apprenticeship, training, further education or volunteering, writes Sandy Begbie, CEO at Scottish Financial Enterprise HAVING the opportunity to fulfil your potential as you grow up and enter adulthood is something that can easily be taken for granted. The ability to develop new skills, learn from your experiences, and to have a choice about the path you want to follow is something that should be available to everybody.

Recent adaptations to Foundation Apprenticeships during the pandemic have allowed young people in Scotland to continue benefiting from a wealth of industry experience. Across Scotland employers, schools and learning providers have made changes to support pupils during the most challenging year any are likely to face. For pupils across the country, the changes have also included how they have been supported to complete their Foundation Apprenticeships. And with pupils heading into option choices, Foundation Apprenticeships are available across Scotland again.

The college’s Foundation Apprenticeship frameworks cover accountancy, business skills, social services, children and young people, social services and healthcare with creative and digital media in the next academic term FOR SCOTLAND’S senior high school pupils, taking the first steps into the world of work can be a daunting process. The team at South Lanarkshire College understands the pressures facing young people and has expanded its Foundation Apprenticeship programme this year to help young people unlock their full potential. As a result, many students across a range of disciplines, are a little closer to achieving their dreams.
