WASHINGTON Global economic freedom remained at a record high of 61.6 for the second year in a row in The Heritage Foundation’s 2021 “Index of Economic Freedom,” despite the uncertainty of a global pandemic. Singapore remained in the top spot as the world’s most-free economy, while the U.S. recorded its worst score and ranking ever, a result of out-of-control spending and a loss of confidence by Americans in the even-handed rule of law. Former Vice President Mike Pence will be joining The Heritage Foundation as a distinguished visiting fellow, the think tank announced Thursday.
“The Heritage Foundation is a flagship of the conservative movement and I am profoundly honored to join them as a distinguished visiting fellow to advance conservative solutions that will benefit every American,” Pence, who left office on Jan. 20, said in a statement.
Before serving a single term as vice president for President Donald Trump, Pence was governor of Indiana and represented the state’s 2nd Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives, where he rose to serve as chairman of the House Republican Conference.
