List of Wildfires Currently Burning in Montana [2021 Edition]
Wildfire season began quite a bit earlier than usual this year in Montana. Dry, drought-like conditions have resulted in multiple fires are wildfires burning throughout the state.
The largest wildfire burning in Montana is the Trail Creek Fire. The fire is burning along the border of Montana and Idaho 20 miles west of Wisdom, Montana. The fire is currently 32,933 Acres. The fire was started by lightning on Thursday, July 8, 2021.

The Trail Creek Fire started on July 8, 2021, approximately 20 miles West of Wisdom, Montana, as the result of lightning. 32,933 Acres have burned. 137 personnel are assigned to the Trail Creek Fire. The estimated containment date is November 1, 2021.

(UPDATE, 3:15 p.m.) During a community meeting in Cascade on Tuesday morning, fire managers explained that there are 30 major fires in the Northern Rockies region that are sharing resources. Because of this, resources on Harris Mountain Fire are relatively small at this point, and they said theyâre having to play defense and chase the fire.
Theyâre focusing their efforts on any areas with structures with retardant and dozing. There is also a strike team from California helping with the fire. Pre-evacuation and evacuation efforts have started, especially on the south side of the fire. At this point, 60 properties have been evacuated. Balsinger Fire is about 5,203 acres with no containment. The
Ellis Fire is estimated at 1,277 acres, with 70% containment. The Balsinger and Ellis fires are being co-managed as the Divide Complex Fire.
The Divide Complex has 222 personnel including crews, aircraft, engines, dozers, and water tenders. The American Fork Fire has 164 personnel including crews, engines, a dozer, and a water tender. Private rancher dozers are also supporting the suppression efforts.

(UPDATE, 7 p.m.) On Monday afternoon the Cascade County Sheriff s Office issued additional evacuation orders for residents near the Harris Mountain Fire.
The Cascade County Sheriff s Office issued a MANDATORY EVACUATION order for all residents on Sheep Creek Lane, Sheep Creek Road, and Austin Lane.
The alert stated that those residents are in imminent danger due to the fire and that first responders would not enter the area to rescue residents who did not evacuate.
