The government has decided to auction spectrum for Next Generation Mobile Services (NGMS), such as 3G and 4G, in Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication Syed Aminul Haque announced it on Thursday. Haque said that the policy directive for the ‘first’ auction of mobile broadband spectrum has been issued. ISLAMABAD: The government on Friday ordered import of 200,000 tonnes of sugar to build strategic reserves and increased the prices of wheat flour, ghee and sugar by up to 53pc for sale through the Utility Stores Corporation (USC).
The decisions were taken at a meeting of the federal cabinet’s Economic Coordination Committee (ECC), which was presided over by Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin and was attended by only two other members of the 14-member ECC.
The ECC also allowed import of 200,000 bales of cotton to meet requirements of the textile industry and made about Rs116 billion non-cash book adjustment in various public sector power producers to contain circular debt.

The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet here on Friday approved the flagship ‘Kamyab Pakistan Program’ besides approving several other projects.
The ECC meeting was chaired by Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Shaukat Tarin, according to press statement by Finance Ministry here.
The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Fakhar Imam; Federal Minister for Energy, Hammad Azhar; SAPM on Finance and Revenue, Dr. Waqar Masood; SAPM on Power and Petroleum, Tabish Gauhar; SAPM on Youth Affairs, Usman Dar, Secretaries of Finance Division, Communication and Industries and Production. ECC decision to impact prices of flour, sugar and cooking oil
ISLAMABAD:
The federal government has decided to increase prices of wheat flour, sugar and cooking oil in the range of 19% to 53% at the Utility Stores Corporation (USC) by reducing subsidies for the poor, taking a second major administrative decision in as many days that will further fuel inflation.
The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the cabinet on Friday increased the sugar prices to an amount even more than what the Ministry of Industry had recommended in its summary.
Despite the claimed sugarcane bumper crop, the ECC meeting – chaired by Minister for Finance Shaukat Tarin – also approved to import 200,000 metric tons more sugar, taking the total quantity to 300,000 metric tons within three weeks.
