US Report Can t Explain UFOs, But Says They re Likely Real and Possibly a National Security Threat

Many unidentified flying objects observed by the military and other government sources since 2004 probably actually exist and may pose a threat to national security, according to an intelligence report released Friday.
Government sources originated 144 reports of unidentified aerial phenomena, or UAPs, the term the government now uses to describe objects popularly referred to as UFOs. Many incidents were witnessed firsthand by military aviators and observed by reliable sensor systems, the report adds.

The intelligence community s release of the unclassified document marks one of the first times the US government has publicly acknowledged that these strange aerial sightings by Navy pilots and others are worthy of legitimate scrutiny. The limited amount of high-quality reporting on unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP) hampers our ability to draw firm conclusions about the nature or intent of UAP, the nine-page preliminary report says, using the Pentagon s terminology for UFOs.
But despite that challenge, the report does conclude that these objects clearly pose a safety of flight issue and may pose a challenge to US national security.
“This preliminary report is provided by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) in response to the provision in Senate Report 116-233, accompanying the Intelligence Authorization Act (IAA) for Fiscal Year 2021, that the DNI, in consultation with the Secretary of Defense (SECDEF), is to submit an intelligence assessment of the threat posed.
