Elena Dubinets Announced as Artistic Director of the London Philharmonic Orchestra

Elena Dubinets Announced as Artistic Director of the London Philharmonic Orchestra The announcement follows the departure of Cristina Rocca due to a personal bereavement.by BWW News Desk The London Philharmonic Orchestra today announced the appointment of Russian-born Elena Dubinets to the role of Artistic Director from September 2021. She joins the Orchestra from the US, where over a period of 15 years she made an outstanding impact on the artistic direction and vision of the Seattle Symphony Orchestra. In Seattle she focussed on shaping and implementing the Orchestra s artistic vision in her multifaceted role as Vice President of Artistic Planning and Creative Projects. She was responsible for its classical music programming, incorporating wide-ranging repertoire and numerous new commissions into the subscription series season, as well as late-night performances and collaborations in cross-arts partnerships such as with National Nordic Museum and Mark Morris Dance Group.

A guest conductor leads Sarasota Orchestra for first time this season

Mulligan, who had been scheduled to be a guest conductor this season before the pandemic upended the schedule, is a last-minute stand-in for the orchestra’s artistic advisor, Jeffrey Kahane, who was to have led an 11-member chamber ensemble in Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 14 in E-flat Major. Unforeseen circumstances are preventing Kahane from performing, said Greenfield, and Mulligan, most recently associate conductor of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and music director of the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra, will instead take the podium for Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 3 in G Major, K. 216, and Mendelssohn’s Sinfonia No. 9 in C Major.

Sarasota Orchestra returns to full season of concerts in new season

The pandemic hit while the orchestra was in the middle of a search to find a new music director to succeed Anu Tali, who stepped down in 2018 after six years. Several of the seven conductors set to lead Masterworks concerts, the organization’s centerpiece programs, are returning from past seasons, including Marcelo Lehninger, who opens the season, JoAnn Falletta and Bramwell Tovey. Others, like Teddy Abrams, music director of the Louisville Orchestra, and Stephen Mulligan, associate conductor of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, were booked for last season but didn’t get to appear. “It’s going to be a further exploration and getting-to-know-you process,” said Concertmaster Daniel Jordan.

McDuffie and Spano to conclude Aspen Music Fest virtual series

Aspen Music Festival music director Robert Spano is taking a seat on the piano bench for a virtual performance with violinist Robert McDuffie on Thursday night, closing the Music Fest’s winter series. The pair are frequent musical partners and frequent collaborators, both in Aspen where McDuffie is an alum and an annual presence at the summer festival and in Georgia, where Spano also serves as music director of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and McDuffie founded the trailblazing Robert McDuffie Center for Strings at Mercer College. The pair recorded Thursday’s performance, featuring Brahms’ first violin sonata and Beethoven’s seventh violin sonata, on campus at Mercer.
