Massage parlors are known to sometimes provide prostitution services, but authorities say there is no indication yet that this is the case at the targeted locations.
‘These are legally operating businesses that have not been on our radar,’ said Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, who added that the city would not engage in
‘victim shaming, victim blaming’.

‘During his interview, he gave no indicators that this was racially motivated,’ Reynolds said during the press conference.
‘We asked him that specifically and the answer was no.’
Officials said Long appeared to be working alone and there was no active threat to the community.

A white man accused of killing eight people, most of whom were of Asian descent, at massage parlours in the Atlanta area told police the attack was not racially motivated and that he potentially had a sex addiction , officials said Wednesday.
Still, authorities said they were investigating whether the deaths were hate crimes amid concerns over a wave of attacks on Asian Americans. Six of the victims were identified as Asian and seven were women.
A white gunman was charged Wednesday with killing eight people at three Atlanta-area massage parlours in an attack that sent terror through the Asian American community, which has increasingly been targeted during the coronavirus pandemic.
