Frontier increases Atlanta focus

Denver-based Frontier Airlines has announced the launch of eight new routes, six of which are from Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson (ATL).  The planned expansion comes less than two months after the carrier said it intends to open a base at ATL before the end of 2021. The six additions will increase the airline’s network from the country s busiest airport to 22 routes. Starting June 10, Frontier will begin a 3X-weekly service between ATL and Phoenix (PHX). Flights to Cleveland (CLE), Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) and Hartford, Connecticut (BDL) start a day later, each of which will be served four times per week. Three times-weekly service to Providence (PVD) and 4X-weekly service to Portland, Maine (PWM) will begin on July 12 and 13 respectively.

Frontier to open Tampa base, signals Atlanta intention

Denver-based Frontier Airlines is plotting further growth at Tampa International (TPA) and Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson (ATL) this year. The ULCC, which this summer plans to serve 18 nonstop routes from TPA and 16 from ATL, said both destinations have become “increasingly important” points in its network. As a result, the airline will establish a crew base at TPA in May and intends to open a base at ATL before the end of 2021. Approximately 250 flight attendants and 140 pilots will be based at TPA this year with that number expected to increase in the future.  “With our low-cost structure and focus on leisure travel, Frontier is exceptionally well positioned to increase operations this year and continue to expand in these two growing markets,” Frontier CEO Barry Biffle said.

Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport TSA agents collect 7 guns in 2020

Though air travel numbers were down dramatically in 2020 because of a global pandemic, the Transportation Security Administration said its agents stopped guns at their checkpoints across the United States at double the rate they did the previous year. Firearm confiscations at Florida airports remained in the top 10 across the country, as they have for years.  In 2020, there were about 10 firearms per one million passengers screened as compared to about five firearms per one million passengers in 2019, according to the TSA s annual report released in January. At Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport, seven guns were confiscated by TSA agents compared to six guns collected in 2019.
