UWC Atlantic College in Wales has announced that HRH Princess Leonor of Asturias, the 15-year-old-daughter of King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia will join in September 2021. She is the heir presumptive to the throne in Spain and is following a longline in European Royals to be educated at the stunning 12th Century St Donat’s Castle near Cardiff.
Situated on a 122-acre seafront campus, where formal gardens are interspersed with valleys, woodlands and a farm, the medieval castle even has its own lifeboat service - it is here that the Rigid Inflatable Lifeboat (RIB) was invented by students at the College in the early sixties.

Jens Waltermann, executive director of UWC International, said: “We are delighted that Her Royal Highness the Princess of Asturias will soon be part of the UWC global education movement, having been selected to study at UWC Atlantic in the UK.
“The Princess will join 4,500 other students from 155 countries, and from a diverse range of backgrounds, who will be studying at one of our 18 schools.
“It doesn’t matter where a student comes from to access a UWC education, with over 75% of all students receiving partial or full scholarships.
